Week 23 in Field!

This week has been crazy!
Why? Because in Thailand, it was the New Year's celebration!
It's called SongKrang...
What does it entail?
If I were to help you visualize it...
I would describe it like this:
Imagine Halloween, where you go door to door and Trick or Treat.
But instead of getting treats, you get water thrown at you, and your face patted with baby powder...
There are trucks full of people and stations set up in front of homes and stores, with huge containers of water, ready to attack you as you pass by!
And it lasts for THREE DAYS!!

But first before all that, the beginning of the week was in preparation for the Ward SongKrang Activity.
We spent some of our District Meeting time to go buy some supplies at Macro.

And ended up biking around the town like this.....

Wednesday Morning- Ward Activity!

Similar to the Korean Tradition of showing respect to your Elders by the traditional bow on New Years, and receiving blessings in return, Thai people do it like this!

And then...the real experience of SongKrang started!!

In the midst of it all, we still had to work :)

Inviting on the streets looked something like this...

While all that was happening...Fuk has become the missionaries' new hero!
He is literally everywhere we go!
Whether it's service projects or helping us teach, you can count on Fuk and his little bike to be there at your service!!!

Week 22 in Field!

On Monday, Sister Sattatip and I helped Sister Booyi's family to have Family Home Evening at their own home for the very first time!
We invited Sister Ja, and her son, Ghitar to help us.
At first, it was a little awkward, but soon the Spirit was present as we each shared our favourite scripture and the room filled with laughter as we played a game.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to witness the first steps of this beautiful family towards Eternal Life!
They have had to completely change their lives in order to accept the gospel...
They ran into challenges with each of the commandments that we taught.
With the Word of Wisdom, Brother Aut had to quit smoking and drinking.
With the Law of Chastity, they had to become legally married.
With the ten commandments, they had to learn what it meant to keep the Sabbath Day Holy, and had to stop working on Sundays and go to church.
With the Law of Tithing and Fasting, they didn't quite understand it at first, but when they finally understood it, they were able to understand it in their hearts.
Watching this family progress in leaps and bounds within the gospel is a confirmation to me that it is true.
I now know what it really means when we say the gospel changes lives and blesses families!

On Tuesday, we went to go visit Sister Wiray and Brother Wishian's family.
This family is another living proof that the gospel truly blesses families!
They joined the church about 10 years ago, and they have stories upon stories of how the gospel has blessed them.
They have such a strong testimony founded in the gospel.
There was no denying the Light in their eyes as they shared their experiences.
Their home was rundown, beaten and looks not much more than an abandoned garage, but it's a happy home.
So much comfort, peace and love can be felt.
The long bike ride over to their home with a flat tire was definitely worth it!

On Wednesday, we had to use most of our day to travel to Roi Et for interviews with President Johnson, and Zone Conference on Thursday.
There is definitely a special spirit when missionaries are gathered together to be trained on how to improve.
Some of the highlights of what I learned:
1) On your mission, you HAVE to be your primary convert! You must become unshakable, no matter what.
2) Love you companions! Treat your companion like your best friend. Don't expect behavior from your companion that you don't require yourself. Look for ways to serve your companion. CHARITY is the key! Be happy for each other and have compassion.
"We are on the same team! Why would I ever criticize them?"
3) We watched a short video about rules in the military. It is required for you to make your bed with precision every single morning. If you can accomplish that, you have accomplished the first task of the day and you can move on to accomplishing the other things. It will set the        pace for your day.(I wish I had the video to share with you!) When it comes to obedience, prove it to yourself first! If you can't do the little things, you can't do the big things. Obedience brings peace.

This is Sister Burbank! She's been my STL for the past two transfers and will be returning home with honour this next week!
I am so grateful to have had the chance to learn from her example of diligent missionary work.

This is not a new face, is it?
Sister Blaylock was called to be an STL and has served alongside Sister Burbank this last transfer!
How luck am I to have Auntie be my STL?
I have been so blessed to have such a loving and caring STL!

The trip back home from Zone Conference was an adventure...
First we started off by piling into these tiny TukTuks..

And then we met a friend at the bus station!

Then..our bus broke down so we had to wait for the next one...
As a result... we had to cram into an already full bus...which meant that the Elders had to sit in the isles!

To finish off the week, we finally got to watch General Conference!!
During this time, I pondered a lot about repentance.
I was struggling with understanding whether or not my repentance process was sufficient, and whether or not I had been forgiven.
I spent a lot of time pondering and praying.
The answers to this question that I received from General Conference all pointed to the same thing.
Heavenly Father is merciful and repentance is a process for us to have peace and happiness in our lives.
It is not a process to condemn us, or ridicule us, or to punish us.
Heavenly Father loves each of His children individually and personally.
I have not doubt about it.

milwaukee is awesome!

So this week we taught a killer restoration lesson to one of our investigators named sister Robb. She was actually a Bible referral and wanted to learn more so she let us come back! I love her so much already shes such a character. We taught her the restoration and I was the one who shared the first vision. As I shared the first vision we all felt the spirit super strong. My heart was on fire and sister gross and i were holding back tears. Sister Robb was kind of alarmed actually. She was liek I dont knwo what you just shared but I felt something. We both testified that it was the Spirt letting her know that what we shared was true. Sister gross and i have never felt the spirit so strongly in a lesson. sister Robb was so excited to read the book fo mormon after that! im so grateful for prophets and the book or mormon and most importantly my saviour Jesus Christ!
We contacted alot of bible referrals this week and found lots of sweet potentials. We got to know the members of the ward better during a delicious pancake brunch. Transfers are this week. im actually staying in the milwaukee first ward!!! which im quite stoked about! im getting a new companion named sister soifua. this is actually her last trasnfer. ive literally had a new companion every transfer its crazy! but im excited for new things! the lord knows whats best for us so we wil see what this trasnfer has i store! im excited! :) its going to be scary being in charge of the area though but with the lords help all is possible. milwaukee is awesome! the people are friendly, the people are being prepared and the food is delicious! im grateful to see the lords hand in my life so much! i love you all! :D <3

General Conference!

so i dont have much time so here we go general conference was so good! im so grateful that we have a living prophet and apostles to lead and guide the Savior church. i always feel the spirit watching them and i alwaysget answers to my questions. we watched the sunday morning session ith our recent convert gary and an investigator names janice. she received inspiration for herself as she watched it. she asked us afterwards how she can repent and if she need to repent everyday. how awesome is that! their were definitely lots of happy tears shed during conference. we got to watch the last session with president and sister cutler. she makes the most delicious food! after dinner we talked about the mission wide atonement read that were doing on the book of Mormon. we mark scriptures about the nature of Christ and his atonement and how we access that power. its so great to be able to see hwo The Book of Mormon just testifies of Christ and His atonement and how we can draw so much closer to Him through reading it. So i had some real Wisconsin cheese curds this week. They were oh so heavenly. custard is so good! i dont ever want ice cream again!

Week 21 in Field!

This week was so full of service!
I have a firm testimony that service heals hearts.
To make a long story short, things with my companion have not been easy.
The past couple weeks have probably been the hardest couple weeks in my mission so far.
My patience has really been stretched and tested...
But, this week was so much better because we spent time serving the people that we love!

On Wednesday, we helped our newly baptized family polish the brassware that engrave designs in and sell!

That same day, we got to help some members pick and prune some cashews!

On Thursday, we went to MEE May's home, and cleaned!!

On Saturday, we went to visit Sister MEEW and help her make treats that she sells :)

And quite possibly the highlight of my week has been watching Sister Booyi and her family, who were just baptized last week, progress in leaps and bounds.
The week between receiving their baptisms and the receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, this family has spend several hours serving with the missionaries and attending church activities.
On Saturday, Sister Booyi's testimony of conversion reached the heart of one of our investigators who we were close to giving up on.
Her sweet, pure testimony of how the gospel has brought happiness into her family, and her willingness to help others come into the fold, is such a blessing to witness!
I am so very grateful to my Heavenly Father for trusting me with this family.
I have learned so much and am still learning so much from my relationship with them!
It has been a huge privilege! ^^

Two progressing investigators with Sister Booyi, Brother Aut and Fuk this past Sunday!
Words are not sufficient enough to express how much I love them!

The Funniest Thing that Happened this Week:
For District Meeting, our DL brought in an ice-cream truck and the goal was to eat ALL of this seller's ice cream....
Did we succeed?? Oh yes, we did!!!
Did we also all end up with stomach aches? We don't like to admit it...but yes...yes we did as well ...

It's so hot in Thailand that it's impossible not to stop for a smoothie break every few hours!

Out in the Isan of Thailand, it's pretty natural to just pick some berries, or fruits off the trees and eat them.

On Animal Watch this week....

I almost had a heart attack when my companion unexpectedly popped THIS in front of my face!
I screamed like a little girl...it was quite embarrassing....

We saw this poor chap while inviting at a park across from the church....

On Sunday at the bishop's house... I ate these....

PROOF!

There's not really much else to update this week...
Next week should be better!
We have Zone Conference and General Conference!
(in Thailand we get to watch General Conference a week late!)
I'm so excited!!! ^^
I hope that everyone back home is doing well!
Just remember that the Atonement is very powerful and through it, we can gain so much strength, energy, happiness and peace!
We just need to learn to apply it in our lives every single day!
Don't forget to SMILE!
